The Naughty Stepbrothers

33407420

The Naughty Stepbrothers by Trinity Blacio

Goodreads Rating: 4 stars

Actual Rating: 3.5 stars

I received The Naughty Stepbrothers from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

The Naughty Stepbrothers is the 3rd installment of the Naughty Angel series. I felt this installment was an afterthought, however, if more books are to come in this series, these particular characters needed to be introduced into the story. The story is very short, around 50 pages. Everything moved very fast paced which means there were things that we don’t get to see as the reader.

I am not really sure who the stepbrothers are, paranormal wise. In the beginning of the book, they are wolves, but later find out they are part Fae part demon. I felt that logistics weren’t thought out and I often felt a little lost. I also hoped the big scene with the evil step mother would have been something spectacular, however, we weren’t even present for it and had to hear about it through the alpha males in the series. The story left me confused more than provided any information to further the series along.

That being said, there was only one sex scene in the short 50 pages, and that was right after the wedding ceremony. I found it both steamy and fell short at the same time. I like many of Blacio’s sex scenes and I felt this scene could have had more umph. I am still unsure how I feel about Xena. I felt that, based on Annabelle’s reactions in past books, she should have reacted in some way when Xena was checking out Annabelle’s mates.

In this book, Annabelle also had a set of twins since book 2. We did not get to see any of the 5 children in the story. I look forward to seeing them more in future books. I am curious to see where Xena will end in the story line, and if her character has some legend as well.

Naughty Mommy and Santa’s Helpers

Naughty Mommy and Santa’s Helpers by Trinity Blacio

Goodreads Rating 5 stars

A note on how I do my book reviews, it is VERY rare I give a synopsis to a book when I review. I feel that the description provides a good summary of the book and my reviews are based on what I thought about the book giving examples. Also,

I received a copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This is the sequel in the Naughty Angel series by Trinity Blacio. I enjoyed the continuation. I wish there were more instances with the kids. I would like to see them a bit more because they have cute personalities.

I also wish more about Sandy and Dwayne’s relationship had been explained. At the end of book 1, they were not even together, but in this book, which takes place a year later, Sandy and Dwayne are married. I also wished their relationship was more defined in the story, they are not really characters that you see too much and it is really hard for me to get a connection with either of them. .

I feel kinda bad for these 4, because it seems like they can’t catch a break. There was a little more fetish sexy times. I still have issues with Marcus and Lance. I really felt like at times they do not even let Annabelle express herself and she is supposed to keep these feelings in, and look what happened to her! Jerks. They are not my favorite men. At all. I would like some more BDSM play, and hopefully, once their lives settle down they will have more fun other than spanking and a few other things.

I read this story in one day and enjoyed it. I still love Annabelle, I loved the babies, I enjoyed the steamy scenes, and I like the development of Annabelle’s character. I am ready for the men to get an upgrade in their character development because they are asses.

The Naughty Angel and Her Three Very Wise Men

33400897

The Naughty Angel and Her Three Very Wise Men by Trinity Blacio

Goodreads Rating 5 stars

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I have really enjoyed Trinity Blacio books. This one wasn’t much different. My main issue with the story was that Marcus and Lance were controlling, not DOMS. I was in an abusive relationship, and this really borders abusive. Marcus and Lance have some SERIOUS issues that never really get addressed in the book. But I am not going to rip apart that part of the story for now. The other issue I have with Trinity’s books is that she needs a better editor. There are some crazy editing issues. I have never read a single book of hers that was not poorly edited.

So why did I give it 5 stars? Looking past the editing issues, and trying to look past Marcus and Lance’s behaviors, the story was good. The sex scenes were smoking hot. I loved Annabelle. She was fiery and hot. I think it was a great start to a new series, and I hope to read more about Annabelle and the growth of their legend.

What I would REALLY love to see is crossover between the Wicked Sisters series, the Naughty Angel series, and a continuation of Hot for Xmas.

A List of Cages

A List of Cages by Robin Roe

Goodreads Rating: 5 stars

When I heard about A List of Cages I knew I HAD to read it. I received this book on January 13, 2017 and finished it in one sitting.

A List of Cages broke me to my very core. It strips away everything you feel, to the barest of raw emotion and then squeezes your heart until it feels like it is caving in on you. This story is about a boy who the system failed and broke and his journey to strength.

I have been struggling with this review for a while, because, what words can I say that will express what is this book? There are a lot of negative reviews on this book, but I work in this EVERY SINGLE DAY. I see these broken children. This book is a must to put to light the failures in the system.

My suggestion is to read this book. This pain is a necessary evil. I hope Robin Rowe has other books in the works.

An Innocent Ride

33980334

Innocent Ride by Alethea Robertson

Goodreads Rating: 4 stars

I was provided a free copy for an honest review.

Innocent Ride is about young woman named Candace who is looking for her Romeo. Her Happily Ever After. She goes to a witch to have her Astrology read. Shortly after she comes into contact with 2 men, one of which she feels an instant connection with and the other she feels nothing but friendship.

During the story, Candace goes through many trials and tribulations where her feelings are tested and she is challenged to change her ideals on love and life. The reason I gave the story 4 stars is mainly because I felt some characters could have been more defined and situations better explained. For instance, Robbie confused me the whole time. I get that the connection was supposed to be magical, but his mood swings are never fully developed. Eventually you find out what is wrong with Robbie, but I felt like when those particular moody instances happened, it was a bit of a turn off because there was no follow up for majority of the book. The back and forth with the emotions for Candace was a tad whiny after a while. Now, I totally understand what it feels like to be heart broken and question another person’s feelings and motives, but it felt like half of the book was this scenario.

This book is lighthearted, quick to read, and unique. The main premise really holds around motorcycles and riding with her “prince.” I found myself engrossed with Candace and her determination to achieve her dream. I enjoyed the other characters as well. Oliver was definitely a favorite!!! I bumped the rating up on Goodreads because I felt that the book was original. There are not many scenes in the story, but that is okay. The descriptions were well done and I still enjoyed the entire story regardless of how the back and forth feelings made me feel.

This my first book by Alethea Robertson and I will definitely read more of her books in the future.

Follow the Bread Crumbs

Follow the Breadcrumbs by Chris Stead

Rating: 5 stars

Follow the Bread Crumbs is another cute story where Willy Nilly has a big idea that does not go according to plan. Willy Nilly is one day at the lake feeding the ducks and other birds and he has the idea of building a pond in his back yard for the birds to stay so he no longer had to clean his room in order to be permitted to the go to the pond. He went to the local baker and got some of his stale bread. He went home and dug a big hole in the back yard and filled it with water. He left bread crumbs from the pond to his back yard. When he went to bed, he hoped that a couple of ducks and geese would follow the bread crumbs. The next morning he finds out all the animals at the pond, and even an alligator, followed the crumbs to his house! Willy Nilly had to go get more bread to feed them because the animals were getting antsy and hungry. As he rode by the pond, he saw people crying because there were no ducks to feed anymore. When he got back to his house he decided to leave bread crumbs from his home back to the pond. The next morning when he woke up, he saw that all of the animals left the yard. When Willy Nilly rode his bike to the pond, he saw all the animals were back and everyone was happy again.

This is another story following Willy Nilly’s adventures. It was a cute story and once again, the graphics were amazing. I think young children will enjoy Willy Nilly’s Adventures. Chris Stead is a great children’s writers, and I hope to one day share them with my own children (once I have them!).

My Birthday Cake Needs a New Home

28462926My Birthday Cake Needs a New Home by Chris Stead

Goodreads Rating: 5 stars

My Birthday Cake Needs a New Home is about a little girl who had a great birthday, but had too much leftover birthday cake. She searches high and low for a new place to put her cake. She tries her ears, her belly button, the refrigerator, her bookshelf, and even in her dad’s car! She finally settled on giving it to her brother.

I really enjoyed the art work for this book. I liked how it had smashed cake everywhere she tried to hide it. I feel it really helps connect the story together. It only takes a couple of minutes to read and is a great bedtime story, especially for those who love their birthday and want to keep all of their leftover cake forever 🙂

The Little Green Boat

28372036

The Little Green Boat by Chris Stead

Goodreads Rating: 5 stars

I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Little Green Boat  is about a little boy named Willy Nilly who has a trip to the beach planned with his parents. When Willy Nilly gets to the beach, he goes exploring and finds a little green boat. This little green boat takes him out into sea. Willy Nilly becomes very hungry he becomes determined to find food. Two dolphins swim up to him in the boat and inquires about what is wrong with Willy Nilly. Willy Nilly tells him he was taken out to sea and he is hungry. The dolphins offer to bring him to land, however, the land they bring him to is not the same as from where Willy Nilly departed. In search of food, Willy Nilly begins to traverse the island and pass monkeys who throw things at him, bats in a cave, alligators that try to eat him, up a mountain to where he finds a chest full of food. At the bottom of the chest is a note with a number and a phone to call for help. Willy Nilly calls the number, and before you know it, a helicopter comes and picks him up and brings him back to the beach his parents are located. His parents are just sitting down to eat, but Willy Nilly is no longer hungry and wants to go play.

This story was very cute. I really enjoyed Willy Nilly and his adventure for food. A kid after my own heart! I think this story is very light and enjoyable for kids. I believe it will keep a child’s attention throughout the story. I think, in the future, Willy Nilly should have a female friend go on these adventures as well. I think it would be great for young female readers. Working with children, this will definitely be a book I let my clients read while sitting in my office. Willy Nilly’s adventures on The Little Green Boat are fun and require Willy Nilly to be smart and brave. These are great factors in stories for young readers.

Sami the Magic Bear- A Trip to the Hospital

33314595

Sami the Magic Bear- A Trip to the Hospital by Murielle Bourdon

Goodreads Rating: 5 stars

Leukemia is any parents’ worst nightmare for their children. In Sami and the Magic Bear- A Trip to the Hospital, Laurie becomes sick and is diagnosed with leukemia. Laurie was very active prior to this diagnosis, and becoming sick makes her feel lonely and very tired. One day, Laurie’s teacher and classmates send a giant card and Sami the Magic Bear. Sami makes Laurie very happy, and less lonely. One night as she goes to sleep she says that maybe she just let go. The next morning Sami is alive and tells Laurie that she needs to be strong and keep going. This gives Laurie hope. Later, Laurie is released from the hospital and her life gets back to normal.

I try not be critical when it comes to reviewing children’s books, but I try to review objectively. I did like this Sami story, but it seems like something is missing. I think it is a great story to help sick children when they need a lift or to be reminded to hold on and keep strong. This would be a great story for any kid, sick or not. It is very positive, and even made me a bit teary eyed.

Sami the Magic Bear- Say No To Bullying

24750712

Sami the Magic Bear by Murielle Bourdon

Goodreads Rating: 5 stars

Actual Rating: 4.5 stars

The author, Murielle Bourdon, reached out to me via email to review a copy of Sami the Magic Bear: No to Bullying.

Thomas is a 9 year old child who is very depressed and upset. He is bullied constantly by kids at school. On the day of his birthday, he is pushed down and hurt by another child in school. This child also runs off with Thomas’ new baseball cap. Thomas did not want to tell his parents, so he made up a story about losing his hat and falling on the ground and hitting his face. Thomas’ grandparents came to Thomas’ house for his birthday and gave him Sami. While Thomas was crying later that night, Sami came to life and provided Thomas an idea on how to address this bullying issue. The next day, Thomas provided this idea to the principal. This idea was that the bully and Thomas would work together. Thomas would help tutor in French and math, and the bully, Victor, would coach Thomas to play basketball. The end of the story concluded that Victor was most improved in math and French, while Thomas was asked to join the basketball team.

I think this story was cute, however, I am not certain of the full relevancy. I am aware this is a child’s book so it took a difficult conversation and tried to give it a positive outcome. I think in some situations, what Thomas suggested be done may work. Working with abused and neglected children for a living, I do not know if this will work as many of the bullying an abused or neglected child may do to others, may stem from the treatment they received when they were abused or neglected. I think, as a way for parents to begin a conversation on not bullying, this book is appropriate.
