The Naughty Stepbrothers

The Naughty Stepbrothers by Trinity Blacio

Goodreads Rating: 4 stars

Actual Rating: 3.5 stars

I received The Naughty Stepbrothers from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

The Naughty Stepbrothers is the 3rd installment of the Naughty Angel series. I felt this installment was an afterthought, however, if more books are to come in this series, these particular characters needed to be introduced into the story. The story is very short, around 50 pages. Everything moved very fast paced which means there were things that we don’t get to see as the reader.

I am not really sure who the stepbrothers are, paranormal wise. In the beginning of the book, they are wolves, but later find out they are part Fae part demon. I felt that logistics weren’t thought out and I often felt a little lost. I also hoped the big scene with the evil step mother would have been something spectacular, however, we weren’t even present for it and had to hear about it through the alpha males in the series. The story left me confused more than provided any information to further the series along.

That being said, there was only one sex scene in the short 50 pages, and that was right after the wedding ceremony. I found it both steamy and fell short at the same time. I like many of Blacio’s sex scenes and I felt this scene could have had more umph. I am still unsure how I feel about Xena. I felt that, based on Annabelle’s reactions in past books, she should have reacted in some way when Xena was checking out Annabelle’s mates.

In this book, Annabelle also had a set of twins since book 2. We did not get to see any of the 5 children in the story. I look forward to seeing them more in future books. I am curious to see where Xena will end in the story line, and if her character has some legend as well.

Naughty Mommy and Santa’s Helpers

Naughty Mommy and Santa’s Helpers by Trinity Blacio

Goodreads Rating 5 stars

A note on how I do my book reviews, it is VERY rare I give a synopsis to a book when I review. I feel that the description provides a good summary of the book and my reviews are based on what I thought about the book giving examples. Also,

I received a copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This is the sequel in the Naughty Angel series by Trinity Blacio. I enjoyed the continuation. I wish there were more instances with the kids. I would like to see them a bit more because they have cute personalities.

I also wish more about Sandy and Dwayne’s relationship had been explained. At the end of book 1, they were not even together, but in this book, which takes place a year later, Sandy and Dwayne are married. I also wished their relationship was more defined in the story, they are not really characters that you see too much and it is really hard for me to get a connection with either of them. .

I feel kinda bad for these 4, because it seems like they can’t catch a break. There was a little more fetish sexy times. I still have issues with Marcus and Lance. I really felt like at times they do not even let Annabelle express herself and she is supposed to keep these feelings in, and look what happened to her! Jerks. They are not my favorite men. At all. I would like some more BDSM play, and hopefully, once their lives settle down they will have more fun other than spanking and a few other things.

I read this story in one day and enjoyed it. I still love Annabelle, I loved the babies, I enjoyed the steamy scenes, and I like the development of Annabelle’s character. I am ready for the men to get an upgrade in their character development because they are asses.

Follow the Bread Crumbs

Follow the Breadcrumbs by Chris Stead

Rating: 5 stars

Follow the Bread Crumbs is another cute story where Willy Nilly has a big idea that does not go according to plan. Willy Nilly is one day at the lake feeding the ducks and other birds and he has the idea of building a pond in his back yard for the birds to stay so he no longer had to clean his room in order to be permitted to the go to the pond. He went to the local baker and got some of his stale bread. He went home and dug a big hole in the back yard and filled it with water. He left bread crumbs from the pond to his back yard. When he went to bed, he hoped that a couple of ducks and geese would follow the bread crumbs. The next morning he finds out all the animals at the pond, and even an alligator, followed the crumbs to his house! Willy Nilly had to go get more bread to feed them because the animals were getting antsy and hungry. As he rode by the pond, he saw people crying because there were no ducks to feed anymore. When he got back to his house he decided to leave bread crumbs from his home back to the pond. The next morning when he woke up, he saw that all of the animals left the yard. When Willy Nilly rode his bike to the pond, he saw all the animals were back and everyone was happy again.

This is another story following Willy Nilly’s adventures. It was a cute story and once again, the graphics were amazing. I think young children will enjoy Willy Nilly’s Adventures. Chris Stead is a great children’s writers, and I hope to one day share them with my own children (once I have them!).

My Birthday Cake Needs a New Home

28462926My Birthday Cake Needs a New Home by Chris Stead

Goodreads Rating: 5 stars

My Birthday Cake Needs a New Home is about a little girl who had a great birthday, but had too much leftover birthday cake. She searches high and low for a new place to put her cake. She tries her ears, her belly button, the refrigerator, her bookshelf, and even in her dad’s car! She finally settled on giving it to her brother.

I really enjoyed the art work for this book. I liked how it had smashed cake everywhere she tried to hide it. I feel it really helps connect the story together. It only takes a couple of minutes to read and is a great bedtime story, especially for those who love their birthday and want to keep all of their leftover cake forever 🙂

Three Dark Crowns

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

Goodreads Rating 4 stars

Actual Rating: 3.5 stars

Three Dark Crowns was the book included in September’s OwlCrate box.

This book started very slow. I almost gave up on it a couple of times, eventually I read the last 3 chapters and it helped me continue going. The book does pick up, but to far close to the end of the story.

Three Dark Crowns is the story of triplet princesses who at a certain age are split from each other and brought to an area of Fennbrin to study a special talent, with these three princesses those talents are elemental, naturalist, and poison. Every generation produces triplet princesses to be trained and bred for the Beltane. At this Beltane, each princess has to show off her talent to the people. The next day, the three have to set forth and try to kill each other until one princess remains, becoming the queen.

Each princess has her own trials and tribulations. The chapters surrounding The Beltane were the most exciting. It had the most action, the  most betrayal, and the most Oh My God! moments. It ended in a cliffhanger. You have been warned.

The last few chapters and the cliffhanger are really what sold me on this series being promising. I am looking forward to this series and will definitely continue on.  The going comment in reviews is “it is slow, but keep going because it gets better.” Let me tell you…it gets WAY better!!!

Dominated by Two Dragons

Dominated by two dragons

Dominated by Two Dragons by Cynthia Mendoza, Narrated by Melissa Barr

Rating: 3.5 Stars

Goodreads Rating: 4 stars

I received this audiobook through Audiobook Boom in exchange for my honest review.

I really like dragon shifter romance/erotica. Not sure why, I have never really liked Dragons in general. I was pretty excited to listen to this book, but it was too short!!!!

I do enjoy short stories, really, but I like when there are multiple parts, or like a mini series. This was not that. I have looked, so maybe I am wrong, but the book was just too short! 😦 I felt it could have been a little longer in order for the reader/listener to understand and fully appreciate the base of the story. I also felt the sex scene wasn’t as fantastic as it could have been.

I did find it entertaining when the brothers went to the dragon club. I thought the scene when the possible “entertainment” for the night, found out he was one of the twins and backed up and ran out!

I will definitely give more of Mendoza’s books a go, she definitely piqued my interest!

***ABOUT THE AUTHOR***
LK Shaw is a physical therapist assistant by day and writer/social media addict by night. She resides in South Carolina with her high maintenance beagle mix dog, Miss P, who should probably just have her own Instagram account. An avid reader since childhood, she became hooked on historical romance novels in high school. It wasn’t until within the last seven or eight years she tried her hand at contemporary romances. While historical romance remains one of her favorite go-to genres, romantic suspense, especially with a little kink thrown in, have become a first pick from her TBR list.
She initially began writing in November 2015 as part of National Novel Writing Month, when, suddenly, the story became something more than just a “sure, I’ll try to put some words together”. The vision for the story snowballed and, before she knew it, she began taking steps toward publishing. Each book in her first series feature Romantic Suspense and BDSM combined.

The Hidden Oracle

The Hidden Oracle

The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan

Goodreads Rating: 3 stars

Actual Rating: 3.5 Stars

I am normally a HUGE supporter of anything Rick Riordan. This book rubbed me the wrong way on so many levels that I am having a hard time comprehending what I actually read.

I didn’t like how modernized the book was. Not that his other books weren’t modern, I just felt weird with multiple Social Media sites, bands, etc were constantly referenced. I understand that Apollo is a bit self centered (okay more than a bit). I just thought it was too much. To the point of annoying. Feeling this way makes me so sad. I can usually overlook such actions, because it is the character, and I try to have that mindset.

I will continue with the story, but for once, I am saddened that I just was not head over heals for this book 😦

I do think that the age range it is meant for will enjoy it. I believe it has a lot of promise, and by the end of the book, I noticed a change in Apollo’s behaviors and thought processes. My only hope is this continues and that self centered, crap, attitude he has falters and he becomes someone you want to be around. I won’t give away the ending, but I was VERY happy to see it. Much like the new Magnus Chase series, I was happy to see old favorites and meet new loves!

Goodreads Rating: 4 stars

This story is about Penny, who never seems to find happiness in her relationships. Each one is the same, unfulfilling, boring, vanilla, relationship. Penny finds herself just going through the motions in relationships and in life. One day, Penny decides to go to a vanialla, BDSM picnic. There she met Marcus.

*Side Point* This is my vision of Marcus:

tumblr_m2zjmlcBgi1qih6lso1_500

Marcus, like most Doms, can easily spot Penny out for what she is. Over the next week or so, Marcus and Penny begin a D/s relationship. Penny falls in love with Marcus, which, sometimes happens in a D/s relationship.

I won’t go more into the story, because it will provide way too many spoilers. I will, however, talk about how I feel about this story.

16b1519e-9f5e-42dd-b2ec-0422c802caf9

One, I feel like MORE in depth sex scenes would have been nice. I feel that it is a little too Light BDSM for me. I know it was an “intro” for Penny, and Marcus, as a good Dom, really was trying to introduce Penny slowly. But, sometimes, you just kind of have to jump in and go for it 🙂 Second, the “climax” of the story, I wish there was a smidgen more. There are certain scenes that just kind of happen, and we never really know. Again, I can’t go into it without giving spoilers.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fast and easy read. There were some grammatical errors, but the story was still enjoyable. I think it is a great intro story for D/s relationships. It also touches on briefly determining the difference between abuse and appropriate in D/s relationships.

My only wish was that there were more D/s non-vanilla encounters. I felt that it was a little PG13 for what it could have been. I feel it is okay to really dig into some of the toys and aspects of BDSM beyond some spanking and tying up to the bed. I also thought the menage encounter was good, but again, wished it had a little more BDSM. It is a light BDSM story.

Overall, I really did enjoy it. I could picture Marcus as this rustic, gorgeous, older man. I like that this story had an older man, and was not really NA Erotica. The same for Penny. I do like that she was older and that she had her life together (ish).

LK Shaw lives in South Carolina with her highly spoiled and extremely needy beagle-mix pup. She began reading at an early age and devoured as many books as she could. Her favorite authors as a young teen were Christopher Pike and RL Stine. During the summer between her junior and senior years of high school, she ran out of books and asked her mom to loan her one of her “stupid romances”, and then she regretted ever calling them stupid. Because from that first book, she was hooked and hasn’t stopped reading them since. At one time, she owned over 1000 romance novels. Some of her favorite historical romance authors include Christi Caldwell, Courtney Milan, Mary Balogh, and Tessa Dare. Some of her favorite contemporary romance authors include Julia Sykes, Ella Dominguez, Skye Callahan, and Meghan March.

Wow!

So I haven’t reviewed a single book since May! Things in my life have been kinda crazy. I have read though. I’m currently at 102 books for the year and my goal is 150. Give me a few days and I will have some reviews up and ready. 🙂
