The Princess and The Clown

30364278

The Princess and The Clown by Ian Thomas Malone

Goodreads Rating: 2 stars

I was given a copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This book is an erotic satire, of which, I have never read before. I found it difficult to get through. I thought the relationship between Ralph and Jules was…toxic and interesting.

The sex scenes were a bit much, even I could hardly tolerate them. (and I can tolerate just about anything). The satire stems around the fact that both Ralph and Jules are “trailer trash.” Both are deadbeats with no future.

I learned that you can use hot sauce for anal lube. Which is weird, and I am not certain how that is okay for anyone to use. I actually had to stop when I read that to see if that was really a thing. It was definitely new to me. I still cringe thinking about it.

I wasn’t quite prepared for this story. I am sure there are people out there who will find it entertaining. I really enjoy erotica, so I feel this book was kind of a kick to the face and it didn’t make me feel happy. I didn’t connect with the grotesqueness of the characters.

The Naughty Stepbrothers

The Naughty Stepbrothers by Trinity Blacio

Goodreads Rating: 4 stars

Actual Rating: 3.5 stars

I received The Naughty Stepbrothers from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

The Naughty Stepbrothers is the 3rd installment of the Naughty Angel series. I felt this installment was an afterthought, however, if more books are to come in this series, these particular characters needed to be introduced into the story. The story is very short, around 50 pages. Everything moved very fast paced which means there were things that we don’t get to see as the reader.

I am not really sure who the stepbrothers are, paranormal wise. In the beginning of the book, they are wolves, but later find out they are part Fae part demon. I felt that logistics weren’t thought out and I often felt a little lost. I also hoped the big scene with the evil step mother would have been something spectacular, however, we weren’t even present for it and had to hear about it through the alpha males in the series. The story left me confused more than provided any information to further the series along.

That being said, there was only one sex scene in the short 50 pages, and that was right after the wedding ceremony. I found it both steamy and fell short at the same time. I like many of Blacio’s sex scenes and I felt this scene could have had more umph. I am still unsure how I feel about Xena. I felt that, based on Annabelle’s reactions in past books, she should have reacted in some way when Xena was checking out Annabelle’s mates.

In this book, Annabelle also had a set of twins since book 2. We did not get to see any of the 5 children in the story. I look forward to seeing them more in future books. I am curious to see where Xena will end in the story line, and if her character has some legend as well.

The Naughty Angel and Her Three Very Wise Men

33400897

The Naughty Angel and Her Three Very Wise Men by Trinity Blacio

Goodreads Rating 5 stars

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I have really enjoyed Trinity Blacio books. This one wasn’t much different. My main issue with the story was that Marcus and Lance were controlling, not DOMS. I was in an abusive relationship, and this really borders abusive. Marcus and Lance have some SERIOUS issues that never really get addressed in the book. But I am not going to rip apart that part of the story for now. The other issue I have with Trinity’s books is that she needs a better editor. There are some crazy editing issues. I have never read a single book of hers that was not poorly edited.

So why did I give it 5 stars? Looking past the editing issues, and trying to look past Marcus and Lance’s behaviors, the story was good. The sex scenes were smoking hot. I loved Annabelle. She was fiery and hot. I think it was a great start to a new series, and I hope to read more about Annabelle and the growth of their legend.

What I would REALLY love to see is crossover between the Wicked Sisters series, the Naughty Angel series, and a continuation of Hot for Xmas.

Desire Under the Dark Moon

Desire Under the Dark Moon by Trinity Blacio

Goodreads Rating 4 stars

Actual rating 3.5 stars

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This is the third installment of the Wicked Sisters Series. Finally, it has become clear why it is called the Wicked Sisters! In this particular story Allie, the final single sister, came back after a year of being kidnapped. This is also 2 years since the mating of Whitney with her mates in Frankenstein’s Submissive.  The basis of this story is that, even though all 3 sisters are mated, their mates have to fight to keep them. The Dark Moon happens once every 1000 years and all males of every supernatural species has the right to challenge for any one of the sisters to become their mates, regardless if they are already mated. Then, as a whole family unit, all three sisters and their mates basically run the supernatural world and can go through multiple dimensions/planes.

I did not like this one AS much as I enjoyed the other two in the series. I felt the whole book was focused more on this Dark Moon, and there was not enough sex, and the sex scenes they did have weren’t as exciting.

I did like that we find Whitney has had a kid, but it is unclear if Marci has as she wanted one at the end of book 2. I liked Darwin and Steel. I was a little confused by the trio. The book does not really explain how a wolf, demon, and bear came together as a set. Lance appeared to be the “head” of the group much the way Frank and Garth are the head of their little groups in the previous stories, however, he did not seem “strong” enough to be the head of the group. Darwin seemed to have stronger features and bigger ties. It was a little confusing determining their mate structure. I gave this a 4 star rating on Goodreads because i felt that it was better than a 3 star, though the actual rating is somewhere in the middle. It would have gotten a higher rating if there were some pretty WOW sex scenes like her books previous had and if some of the fight scenes had some more details. The epic battle was very brief. If this installment was to focus on the Dark Moon and it’s meaning, I felt it should have had more umph.

Overall, I did enjoy this book but felt it did not hold up to par compared to the other books I have read by this author. Also, I was very happy that the editing was MUCH better than previous stories I have read from this author.

Frankenstein’s Submissive

32712238

Frankenstein’s Submissive by Trinity Blacio

Goodreads Rating: 4 stars

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. I was not paid for this review, these thoughts are my own.

This is a story about Frank Stein, a werewolf/vampire/human/machine that was created over 342 years ago (because the original Frankenstein story that we know is completely wrong per Frank). He is “the chosen one” (cue tiny aliens from Toy Story)

61940466

He has a ragtag pack of other werewolf/vampire hybrids and they decide it is high time to challenge the pack leader in New York (I think it is in New York). During the beginning of an outing, a blue haired witch named Whitney is noticed being chased down the street by said pack leader’s minions. Frank and his pack save Whitney and bring her back to Frank’s condo. Whitney had been bitten by the alpha Frank is going to challenge and turns into a werewolf in 5 seconds of being in the condo. Frank and his pack believe she is the queen and the 4 of them are her mates. Together. And it is HOT. But let’s not get too far ahead. They all go to the home of Whitney’s parents, pick up them and Whitney’s son and head off to a mansion that Frank owns. Whitney’s family is super happy that Frank has stepped out of hiding. They did not expect it to be in their lifetime, and the fact that Frank and his pack has selected their daughter to be queen is even better. This is followed by sexy times, talking, and some more sexy times (I will get into a further breakdown soon). So…who are the other 2 wicked sisters that name this series? Marci is part human part gargoyle…who at Frank’s mansion meets 5 brothers that are gargoyles who become her mates. Allie is part Fae. At the start of the early battle, Maci and Allie flea thinking the fight was their fault (they opened the doors which allowed Whitney to be capture by 2 vampire minions of Alfred, the pack leader).

First, I want to start with why I knocked 1 star off. For the first 1/3 of the book, I was really lost and had to reread some parts over. This is a relatively short story, 74ish pages, so I know a lot of information has to be packed into the overall story. However! Some things went waaaay too fast and I couldn’t keep up, again, this was really during the first third of the book. For me, everything flowed much smoother once they got to Frank’s mansion. I also thought the fight scene did not last long enough. Like seriously. One and done kinda thing. I also did not like that some of the sexual scenes happened in front of Whitney’s parents!!! I am usually not mortified by open sex scenes or having people around watching…but her parents!!! And they didn’t care! Her dad said “she needs to learn her lesson” lmao!!!! I know in the sexy paranormal world anything goes, but her parents?!?! And then! Dad threw mom over his shoulder, smacked her ass, and said he needed to go remind her who is boss!!! LMAO! I did get a kick out of that one though. Finally, the last reason I only gave it 4 stars was because the title indicates “submissive.” But Whitney popped off her mouth often and there was really only one punishment. Also, if this was a D/s relationship, couldn’t tell. When I hear submissive, that is what I think of in erotica.  I just wished it had a higher element to that. The description of the book is “the one and only Frankenstein who is more than willing to protect her if she submits completely to him. Talk about Scary Sex!”—I was really expecting something further out there than what it was.

Now! On to the good stuff– I really did enjoy the sex scenes that were in the book. I really like the chemistry between Frank, Cruse, Dana, Theodore, and Whitney. Also, Cruse can spank my ass any day! I liked Frank, but Cruse is def my fave. I also liked the characters as a whole. Though you do not get to fully know all of the characters, what you do get from them in the book makes you want to know more. I bought book 2 (Maci and her delish gargoyles) right after I finished this book because the author leaves you wanting more. Which, I love!!! I cannot wait to see what happens next! Aside from I mention before about not knowing what was going on for a while, I did like the author’s style. I like her creativity and imagination. Even though this is a smut filled erotic adventure, she also takes what we know from literature and gives them a sexy spin. I like that. I look forward to reading more of her works in the future.

If you want a quick, sexy, fix…I really do suggest this book. There are few typos, but I really did enjoy the book overall.

The Erotic Adventures of Amy and Troy

img_20161110_201729

The Erotic Adventures of Amy and Troy by Red Phoenix

Goodreads Rating: 3 stars

Actual Rating: 3.5 stars

I want to start out by saying I LOVE Red Phoenix. If you want a great, erotic read, I ALWAYS recommend Red Phoenix. I believe The Erotic Adventures of Amy and Troy may be among her first novelettes (I read them all together in one book). Being a lover of Red Phoenix, it is easy to tell this is some of her earlier work.

When I first purchased this book, I was under the impression that it would be Amy and Troy’s erotic adventures together much like Brie and Sir’s adventures, however, I was disappointed to learn that it was actually about to people who love each other, but life seems to prevent them from being together. The Erotic Adventures are Amy and Troy’s separate adventures with various partners and the occasional chapter of Amy and Troy together.

Many of Amy’s erotic adventures left me needing a cold shower to cool down! They were spicy and erotic for sure. I wish the sexual relationship between Amy and Troy were as hot as their exploits. You can love someone passionately and have some heat in the bedroom. My other major complaint is that on the back of the cover it states “Can love survive the day Amy loses all her memories of her longtime love Troy Dawson?” The last 40 pages (of 267 pages) were about the incident which caused Amy to lose her memories. I felt that the scenes with Brad and New Troy were rushed but it was also easy to tell they were being deceptive in their information they were giving. It could have been made more clear that they were trying to win her over in her current state. And while I am at it, shame on them for doing that to Amy!!! I was excited to get a glimpse into the early Brad Anderson, and he was delicious in this story as he is in the Submission series. I do wish that he had bigger roles, or longer part in the story. For as much sex and story line as there was, some of the relationships were not as developed and it could be confusing. Especially feelings that were being tossed around.

At the end of the day, I did enjoy this book and read it fairly quickly. There were parts that made me smile, happy, wanted to punch someone, and again happy. My biggest wish is that it focused more on Amy and Troy together and not separate.

not commit.

Review:

I was very excited to receive this book, I had been wanting to read it since shortly after it came out.

My overall opinion is that the book is original and can hold it’s own in the genre. This is slated as an erotica with an overall story beyond straight sex.  My qualm with this, I feel the rest of the story has more development and I find the sex scenes more lackluster. This story is a prime example. I felt the sex scenes could have been longer or at least in more detail. Or maybe I just wanted them to be longer and more detailed. I like to get worked up when I read erotica.  As far as the underlying story, I would have liked to learn more about the private investigation that Kimber was doing on the side of her actual job. I felt that, because this is a shorter story, that some aspects were glided over and became missed opportunities. It would have been nice to feel connected to Kimber instead of an observer of Kimber’s everyday life.

On the positive, it was still a great story. I liked Kimber, and would like to know Kimber better. Hopefully there will be other stories with Kimber so that readers can get to know her better and hopefully build that connection. I wish there was some more BDSM, and I feel this book was a good opener if one has not read a BDSM style book before.  I like that Kimber has confidence and an “in your face” personality. I feel there is a lot of promise in her character as she is further developed. And I of course loved Watson ❤ and am glad he was okay!! Or this would have gotten one less star!! 😉

Dominated by Two Dragons

Dominated by two dragons

Dominated by Two Dragons by Cynthia Mendoza, Narrated by Melissa Barr

Rating: 3.5 Stars

Goodreads Rating: 4 stars

I received this audiobook through Audiobook Boom in exchange for my honest review.

I really like dragon shifter romance/erotica. Not sure why, I have never really liked Dragons in general. I was pretty excited to listen to this book, but it was too short!!!!

I do enjoy short stories, really, but I like when there are multiple parts, or like a mini series. This was not that. I have looked, so maybe I am wrong, but the book was just too short! 😦 I felt it could have been a little longer in order for the reader/listener to understand and fully appreciate the base of the story. I also felt the sex scene wasn’t as fantastic as it could have been.

I did find it entertaining when the brothers went to the dragon club. I thought the scene when the possible “entertainment” for the night, found out he was one of the twins and backed up and ran out!

I will definitely give more of Mendoza’s books a go, she definitely piqued my interest!

***ABOUT THE AUTHOR***
LK Shaw is a physical therapist assistant by day and writer/social media addict by night. She resides in South Carolina with her high maintenance beagle mix dog, Miss P, who should probably just have her own Instagram account. An avid reader since childhood, she became hooked on historical romance novels in high school. It wasn’t until within the last seven or eight years she tried her hand at contemporary romances. While historical romance remains one of her favorite go-to genres, romantic suspense, especially with a little kink thrown in, have become a first pick from her TBR list.
She initially began writing in November 2015 as part of National Novel Writing Month, when, suddenly, the story became something more than just a “sure, I’ll try to put some words together”. The vision for the story snowballed and, before she knew it, she began taking steps toward publishing. Each book in her first series feature Romantic Suspense and BDSM combined.

Crave

Crave

Crave by Erzabet Bishop

Goodreads Rating: 4 stars

I was given a copy of Crave by the author for my honest review. I was really excited to start reading Erzabet Bishop’s books. I started with Crave first. I never read the preview of the book on Goodreads, so the story line was an honest surprise.

Overall, I liked it. I liked that it was erotic, bdsm, and a suspense/crime story all in one. Linnett starts out as a sub of an apparently gorgeous Dom. One evening while waiting for her Dom to show up to their favorite BDSM club, Crave, Linnett was forced into interacting with a visiting Dom. This Dom hurt Linnett and once she was released from the hospital, she disappeared, became a cop, and then became a Domme that visited Crave masked and hidden from any of her friends. Over the 7 year period from the incident up to current, the Dom that hurt Linnett got away. Every year around that date, this Dom went to random BDSM clubs and killed a woman who looked similar to Linnett. Linnett became a police officer after the event and eventually was put on this case because she lives the lifestyle and could understand the crime scenes better than the coworkers currently working the murders.

As a mini spoiler, I ALWAYS take a star when an animal dies in the story, especially if the animal was MURDERED. When the pet is a predominant character, I deduct more stars (here’s looking at you Patrick Ness!!!!). So, I almost stopped reading when Linnett’s cat was murdered by a serial killer out searching for Linnett. Not okay.

Other than that, I really enjoyed this story. I liked the bedroom scenes, I liked the overall character sketches of each character. I am very glad of how it ended. I look forward to reading more from Erzabet Bishop!
